6 Times Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics Team Exposed Appalling Working Conditions

At just 18 years old, Kylie Jenner launched her first business, Kylie Cosmetics.

Since its inception in 2015, the brand, which started out as Kylie Lip Kits before morphing into a full-fledged makeup conglomerate, has transformed Jenner into a global phenomenon.

During an August 2022 interview with E! News, Jenner said launching a brand with her own products was a no-brainer decision.

“I think that was at the core of my makeup obsession,” Jenner said. “That’s what made me love makeup so much, the self-expression behind it, and the creativity.”

Since launching the company, Jenner has expanded it and brought in many people to work for her, but what’s it like working for the mogul?

Here are 6 of the worst conditions Kylie Cosmetics staff have faced:

1. Staff have been banned from watching Kylie Jenner.

A former employee who worked for Kylie Cosmetics has revealed that staff members weren’t allowed to watch the reality star.

Martha Molasco worked at the factory from 2015 to 2017 after being hired by a temp agency and said there were strict rules for employees when Jenner was there.

“The supervisors were like, ‘Don’t talk to them, don’t even look at them,'” Molasco said.

“It was messed up. We were doing her product and we couldn’t talk to her,” she added. “We couldn’t see her. If we’re making her product and all the work is on us, she should be aware of it.”

2. They are supposed to test makeup products.

Although Kylie Cosmetics products are not tested on animals, Jenner tends to use her employees to test different shades when she needs to promote the product on social media.

In the past, Jenner has admitted to using her housekeeper’s arm as a canvas to show off lip products on her Snapchat, according to PEOPLE.

It is safe to assume that employees may sometimes be asked to try the product before shipping it to consumers.

3. Employees must work long hours.

Jenner expects a lot from its employees, including dedication to working long hours to prepare products for shipment.

According to HuffPost, former employees who worked at the Californian makeup factory, Spatz Laboratories, where Jenner manufactures her products, have revealed some of the conditions in which they were forced to work.

Former staff members have complained of having to work “early mornings” and “long hours”.

Others compared the environment to working in “sweatshop conditions”.

4. Employees had to be quick on the production line.

Another former employee, Irene Lopez, detailed her experience working for Kylie Cosmetics.

Lopez claimed she had to produce makeup items after only being trained for “five minutes” and was “verbally threatened” if she asked her supervisors questions.

“The supervisors I had there had been very demeaning to everyone,” she explained.

“Everything had to be done perfectly and if it wasn’t they would throw it in your face like it was trash. If you didn’t go fast enough you were going to get fired.”

5. Employees have been instructed to remain quiet while manufacturing Jenner products.

Lopez also revealed an important rule she was supposed to follow while working out.

“We had to shut up and keep working,” she said.

“They would come and just watch us on the machines or fill the makeup tubes. They wouldn’t talk to us, they never talked to me, they talked to the managers and walked around and watched everything.”

6. Jenner often went to the factory.

Lopez also revealed that the Jenners visit the factory frequently to check on their progress.

The former employee said that when Jenner came to the factory, she didn’t talk to any of the employees and just watched them make the products.
