Melissa Fumero on ‘Blockbuster’, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ beauty discoveries and the sensitive skincare line she swears by

From helping to roll out the Crest campaign and Oral-B’s Closing America’s Smile Gap – the companies have pledged to provide oral care to 20 million smiles in need by 2030 – and the series premiere Netflix’s “Blockbuster”, Melissa Fumero have a busy week. Between all this, the forties spoke to us about sensitive skin choices, secrets of the glam team on set and why they are passionate about smile care.

Why this partnership?

When I was first approached about this campaign, I confess that I was very naive about it. Have access to simple and basic information dental health was something I definitely took for granted, and I assumed that something as necessary as a toothbrush was available to everyone. To think of a child using their finger to try to clean their teeth because a toothbrush and toothpaste are out of reach is heartbreaking. So I’m very grateful to have been educated by the good people at Crest and Oral B on this issue, and I’m honored to have been asked to help raise awareness about this.

Do you love Halloween and Halloween candy and are you paying special attention to your teeth this week?

I am! Even before kids, especially when I was living in New York, I used to dress up and love going to parades and parties with friends. Now it’s so much fun watching my kids dress up and do tricks. I will definitely have some of my boys candies. My 6 year old son isn’t the biggest chocolate lover, so that’s great news for me. And my 2 year old son hasn’t really eaten candy yet, so this week might be his first experience, although he’s also in a phase where he doesn’t want to try new things so who knows what’s going to happen. pass ! I tend to pay extra attention to my teeth during the holidays when there are extra sweet indulgences, and I try to pass that on to my kids. It’s good to have some sugar, but also make sure you brush your teeth well and floss afterwards.

What are some of your holy grail beauty items?

Drink water! I can still see it on my skin when I’m a little dehydrated. Especially in California where it’s so dry, it’s so important for my skin to make sure I drink enough water. I am also prone to certain redness and sensitivities, and this year I discovered the Deliverance Serum of Gods ($69), and it’s been amazing for my particular skin type. Also, the whole tiger grass line of Dr. Jart is ideal for me when my skin is sensitive or reactive.

What’s the last beauty-related thing you did for the first time?

Become regular facials is a new thing for me, and I love it. I go there once a month, and not only do I see a difference, but it has also become a very good time to relax for me-self-care routine. I haven’t always been the best at it, so I’m glad I persevered.

With a busy schedule, what do you do to take care of yourself?

I try to make sure I can exercise, especially yoga if life feels overwhelming, and I also like to hike. Being outside, sweating and listening to music really resets my brain. I also like to do fun family stuff on the weekends. Quality time and reconnection also helps me when work life gets really busy.

What beauty products have you discovered on one of your show sets?

Working with professionals on set is truly a blessing in all things beauty! One of my “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” makeup artists introduced me to the Hourglass makeup line, and I particularly love their concealer, mascara, and liquid eyeliner. The “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” hairstylist, Kathleen, also introduced me to all of the Living Proof hair products, which are still the ones I use the most. And my personal hairstylist, Brian Fisher, really taught me how to take care of my hair now that I dye it often. It’s a big part of the gig, having access to people who are experts and can help you figure out what works best for you.

You have Blockbuster coming out this week. Was the channel part of your childhood growing up?

It was! We had one in my hometown of New Jersey, and I would go with my family on Friday nights to pick out movies for the weekend. It was such a fun and normal thing to do. You would inevitably see someone from the school or the neighborhood. My brother and I were arguing over which movies we wanted to rent. It was the best!

What excites you as the end of the year approaches?

I’m really looking forward to a calmer, slower period towards the end of the year. I know the holidays can be hectic, but I can’t wait to have less work and more family time to wrap up the year. We have some fun travel plans with the kids lined up. My parents are going to visit us for Thanksgiving. Just planning on spending lots of quality family time, resetting, hopefully recharging, and being ready for 2023!
